How do I apply for registration for UMCvEC Concrete Bowling 2023?

​There are several methods for participants to participate in UMCvEC 2023.

Is this competition free to enter or do I have to pay?

  • There is a fee associated with this competition. The registration fee for a team is RM250.

​

What is the payment method?

What is the entry requirement?

  • All polytechnics and undergraduate students of higher learning institutions are eligible to participate in this competition. You may also refer to  the eligibility of registration through:

    • The link provided in the registration form

    • UMCvEC official website

 

Does this competition require a certain level of education?

  • All Malaysians and international students from higher learning institutions (undergraduates & polytechnics) are welcome to join.

Can we form a group without an advisor or do we need one to guide us?

  • There must be an advisor to guide a team in order to join this competition. 

​

Is it compulsory that all the members should be in the same year of study?

  • No. It is not compulsory for all members to be in the same year of study, but they must be from the same institution.

What is the eligibility for someone to  become an advisor? Does it have to be a lecturer/tutor?

  • Lecturers of the institution are eligible to be the advisor of a team.

​

Can the advisor give any suggestions to participants for their concrete bowling design?

  •  Yes, advisors are allowed to give suggestions to participants for their design. 

Would there be a process to disqualify teams for presentation before entering the final round?

  • No. There will be a first come, first served basis for registration; the first 15 teams will be selected and given a chance to compete.

What criteria will be used to determine the winner?

  • The winner will be decided based on judging criteria. Decisions made by judges are final. 

​

Will the team be disqualified or marks will be deducted if the concrete bowling doesn’t meet one of the requirements? 

  • Participating teams must make sure that the concrete bowling and cube meet the entry requirement or else the team will be disqualified. 

​

What to do if one of the participants cannot attend the competition day due to unforeseen circumstances? Do we need to find a representative?

  • A representative is not required but the leader must provide the committee medical certificate (MC), else, the group will be disqualified. However, we highly encourage everyone to attend the competition. 

​

Will our team be disqualified if we do not follow the specifications of the concrete bowling, such as adding additional painting?

  • Yes, the team will be disqualified for not following the specifications of the concrete bowling ball.

​

Do we need to use the same concrete mix design for the entire bowling ball or are we allowed to use two concrete mix designs, one for the interior and one for the exterior?  

  • The concrete ball must be as casted. Inner and outer parts should be the same. The details of bowling ball specifications are listed in the “Rules and Regulations”. The document will be released once the registration ends.

Is it possible for us to prepare more than one concrete bowling ball in case one breaks or cracks?

  • No. UMCvEC 2023 will only accept one concrete bowling ball.

​

Are certificates awarded to all participants in this competition or the certificates are only given to winners?

  • Every contestant will receive an e-certificate after the competition. In addition, teams that receive special awards will get an additional certificate.  

What is the dress code during competition day? 

  • Every team is required to wear proper attire such as sleeved shirts, long pants and covered shoes. Better yet, clothing bearing respective institution’s logo are preferred for easier identification.

Are we all required to present?

  • All group members must be involved in both oral and video presentations.

​

What to consider in making the presentation video?

  • The duration of the video should be a maximum of 3 minutes. The orientation of the video is advisable to be landscape and the resolution of the video advisable to be 1080p.

​

Do we need to submit our presentation video?

  • Yes, the group leader from each team must submit the presentation video before the event day. The date line is from 1 April 2023 to 30 April 2023. The submission link will be provided in due time. 

​

Is there any penalty if the video and the oral presentation exceed the time limit?

  • Yes. content presented after the time limit will strictly not be taken into accout.

​
